Job Summary
The Clinical Research Nurse is a licensed nurse who provides care to research participants while supporting clinical studies under a Principal Investigator (PI). This role assists with recruitment, screening, consent, and protocol adherence, monitors participant health, manages adverse events, and administers study treatments as needed. The CRN collaborates with the research team, educates staff on protocols, and communicates participant updates.
This entry-level role requires strong nursing fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to learn research regulations and work with diverse teams.
Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Communication
- Deliver protocol-driven care, monitor participant status, and document findings
- Communicate updates to participants, families, and care teams
- Escalate changes in participant condition to PI/team
- Educate staff on study protocols
Clinical & Research Operations
- Perform study procedures (assessments, medication administration, sample collection)
- Schedule visits, prepare materials, and maintain accurate documentation
- Enter and manage study data in systems (e.g., OnCore, REDCap, Epic)
- Coordinate specimen handling and ensure regulatory compliance
- Identify and report adverse events, deviations, or documentation issues
Coordination & Execution
- Review eligibility and support participant recruitment
- Track study timelines and ensure protocol compliance
- Support audits, monitoring, and financial documentation
Team Support
- Participate in study meetings and assist with onboarding new staff
- Support regulatory submissions and documentation as needed
Qualifications:
Required
- BSN or MSN
- 2 years clinical nursing experience
- Active Illinois RN license
- BLS certification
Preferred
- 2 years of clinical research experience
- Relevant specialty certification
