Our client, a well-established CPA firm in Mount Kisco, NY, is seeking a Full Charge Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of clients as well as the firm. This is a hands-on, client-facing role with full ownership of the close, compliance, and reporting cycles. You will work directly with partners, CPAs, and tax professionals, set quality standards, and help refine accounting processes across engagements.

Responsibilities:
• Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients, including A/P, A/R, billing, collections, payroll, fixed assets, accruals, prepaids, and account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP.
• Lead the monthly and quarterly close process: prepare audit-ready workpapers, supporting schedules, and GAAP-compliant financial statements; present results and variance analyses to partners and clients.
• Prepare and post recurring and adjusting journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, reclasses, depreciation, and other close-related entries.
• Perform account analysis for key P&L and balance sheet accounts; investigate variances and document explanations and supporting detail.
• Reconcile all bank, credit card, loan, and other key balance sheet accounts; research discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
• Oversee billing, revenue recognition where applicable, and collections; prepare A/R aging reports and cash-flow summaries for internal and client use.
• Review and post vendor bills, client invoices, and cash receipts; ensure accurate coding, appropriate approvals, and complete supporting documentation.
• Administer payroll through ADP from end to end; maintain payroll records and confidentiality, and coordinate with HR or external providers as needed.
• Prepare and file sales/use tax, payroll tax, 1099s, and related regulatory filings; respond to notices and liaise with governmental agencies as required.
• Build, maintain, and optimize QuickBooks Desktop/Online files, including chart of accounts, classes, budgets, and customized reports.
• Implement, document, and maintain internal controls and accounting policies; streamline workflows and help automate routine tasks where practical.
• Assist partners and CPAs with preparation of financial statements, supporting schedules, and tie-outs for compilations, reviews, and tax engagements.
• Support preparation for financial statement audits, including gathering PBC schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor questions.
• Train and review the work of junior staff or offshore resources; monitor deadlines, accuracy, and adherence to firm standards.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, explaining financial results and providing clear, actionable recommendations and next steps.

Qualifications:
• 7 years of progressive bookkeeping/accounting experience with full-charge responsibility; CPA firm or multi-client environment strongly preferred.
• Extensive hands-on experience with all aspects of the monthly close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and preparation of audit-ready workpapers.
• Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop/Online, including general ledger maintenance, budgeting, custom reporting, and file cleanup.
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, and complex reconciliations).
• Direct experience with ADP payroll and with sales, use, and payroll tax filings.
• Solid working knowledge of GAAP for small and mid-size businesses and of practical internal control best practices.
• Exceptional accuracy, organizational skills, and attention to detail; strong written and verbal communication and a client-service mindset.
• Proven ability to manage multiple clients, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced professional services environment.
• Experience supporting financial statement audits is a plus; familiarity with association management or similar niche software is also a plus.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.

The compensation for this position ranges from $70,000.00 - $90,000.00. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills and certifications.
