Job Title: Operator – Electroplating Technician

Duration: 6-Month Contract

Pay Rate: 23.00/hr. on W2

Shift: 9PM to 5AM 3rd Shift PM M-F

Location: Oldsmar, FL 34677

Position Summary

The Operator – Electroplating Technician is responsible for operating and supporting activities surrounding a particular coating process. The role involves operating primary equipment through Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), switches, pushbuttons, and other control points. Operators are expected to produce required product quantities within defined timeframes while maintaining continuous compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), Quality, FAA, AS9100, and product integrity requirements. This position requires teamwork with Operations Support, Engineering, Maintenance, and Management personnel. Some overtime and limited travel for training may be required.

Duties And Responsibilities

Level I Operator

  • Perform complex and multi-level tasks following established procedures and work instructions.
  • Maintain timely and accurate recordkeeping using digital and handwritten data entry tools.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with PPE requirements and ensure PPE is functioning properly prior to task execution.
  • Participate in and adhere to all Cpex initiatives, including 5S, TPM, SW, VM, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Operate within a fixed-process environment with strict compliance requirements governing product integrity (FAA, AS9100).
  • Identify and communicate non-standard situations, including EHS and product integrity concerns.
  • Follow best practice guidelines for product and raw material handling in a high vacuum coating environment.
  • Complete periodic TPM activities and checklists for assigned processes and equipment.
  • Review own work for completeness and quality compliance, including:
  • Reviewing and interpreting electronic data logs and trending charts at HMIs
  • Measuring critical process outputs such as part weights, surface roughness, and physical dimensions
  • Visually identifying surface imperfections against standards
  • Confirming values from analog and digital gauges and displays

Operate support equipment, including but not limited to:

  • Abrasive blasting systems
  • Parts washers and aqueous cleaning lines
  • High-temperature ovens and furnaces
  • Material handling equipment
  • Surface enhancement equipment
  • Masking of critical-to-quality demarcation lines using various maskants

Support Responsibilities

Support Coater Operators by:

Loading and unloading parts

Assembling and disassembling fixtures

Maintain metal coating fixtures by inspecting condition, removing residual coatings, and eliminating contamination.

Support process teams with standard rebuild and material loading tasks (Turn Arounds).

Maintain punctual and accurate timekeeping in accordance with site Direct Labor standards.

Cross-train in other coating process areas as required to support production needs; completion of required training programs is mandatory prior to assignment.

Qualifications

Regulatory Requirement

Due to ITAR regulations, candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Education And Experience

High school diploma or GED required.

Minimum of 2 years' experience in a production manufacturing environment preferred.

Additional relevant education, training, certifications, or licenses may be considered and may supersede experience requirements.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in digital or handwritten formats.

Effective communication with supervisors, engineers, and coworkers.

Mathematical and Scientific Skills

Perform basic mathematical functions involving decimals, fractions, and percentages.

Convert numbers from scientific notation to decimal form.

Convert measurements between English and Metric systems.

Basic understanding of scientific principles such as fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and energy is a plus.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram-based instructions.

Address problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills And Abilities

Mechanically inclined with the ability to work in a hands-on, demanding environment with minimal supervision.

Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.

Open and adaptable to changes in work scope and procedures to support continuous improvement initiatives.

May be required to operate forklifts and/or cranes (training provided).

Physical Demands

Climb stairs multiple times during a shift.

Manual dexterity to assemble small components using hand and pneumatic tools.

Perform repetitive motions such as turning wrenches or cutting wire.

Lift and carry up to 35 lbs (floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and across shop floor).

Wear a Supplied-Air Respirator (SAR) for certain tasks.

Meet vision requirements including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and color vision.

Work Environment

Exposure to extreme heat, sharp objects, and moving mechanical parts.

PPE, machine guarding, and interlocks are in place, but employee awareness is essential.

Potential exposure to respiratory and skin irritants, asphyxiation hazards, fall hazards, and electrical hazards, including shock or arc flash.

Work environment is generally climate-controlled, though some tasks occur in wet or humid isolated areas.

Noise levels are typically moderate; hearing protection is required in designated high-noise areas.

EB-PVD Coater exposure includes ionizing radiation; shielding ensures exposure remains below background levels.

Radiation monitoring (dosimeters) and radiation awareness training may be required.

Minimum PPE includes eye protection and steel-toed shoes, with additional PPE as required by EHS assessments.
