About the Role
This is a senior-level, hands-on accounting position -- not FP&A. You will own the accounting function end-to-end, reporting directly to the VP of Finance & Accounting, with a clear path to Director or Controller. The right person thrives in ambiguity, builds processes from scratch, and can scale a function in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
What You'll Own
- Full month-end close process -- journal entries, GL activity, and reconciliations
- Accounting for premiums, claims, reserves, and administrator fees in a multi-entity environment
- Trust accounts, restricted cash, and funds held for future claim obligations
- Reserve methodology -- claims reserves, IBNR, and liability tracking
- GAAP compliance, revenue recognition, and balance sheet integrity
- External audit support and state-level regulatory reporting
- Design and implementation of scalable accounting processes from the ground up
- NetSuite optimization and automation initiatives
- Mentorship and development of junior accounting staff
Required:
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Deep, hands-on experience in liability accounting, reserve accounting (IBNR, claims reserves), and trust or restricted cash environments
- Background in one or more of the following: TPA, Warranty / Vehicle Service Contracts, or Insurance accounting
- Proven ownership of month-end close and balance sheet integrity
- Experience building or improving accounting processes
- Team leadership or mentorship experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Preferred:
- CPA or Master's degree
- NetSuite experience (recent implementations or optimization a plus)
- High-growth or startup environment background
- Contract management system experience (PCR or similar)
Salary : $130,000 - $165,000
