2nd shift CNC Programmer / Setup Operator $20-$30/hr
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer / Setup Operator to join our machining team. This position is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC mills or lathes to produce high-quality parts that meet customer specifications and tight tolerances. The ideal candidate will have strong programming experience with GibbsCAM software, excellent blueprint-reading skills, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Programming
- Create and modify CNC programs using GibbsCAM software for new and existing jobs.
- Interpret CAD drawings and engineering data to develop machining programs.
- Collaborate with Design Engineers regarding drawing updates and design changes.
- Communicate with Toolmakers regarding tooling requirements and process improvements.
- Maintain and update programming databases for repeat production jobs.
- Troubleshoot and revise programs as needed to improve performance and quality.
Machine Setup
- Set up tooling, fixtures, and equipment for CNC mills or CNC lathes.
- Analyze blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining requirements.
- Verify machine setups and ensure parts meet precise dimensional tolerances.
- Communicate setup procedures and instructions effectively with team members.
CNC Operation
- Operate and monitor CNC mills or lathes efficiently and safely.
- Run first-piece inspections to verify program accuracy and part quality.
- Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and comparators.
- Diagnose and resolve tooling, machine, and process-related issues.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
- Maintain compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
Additional Duties
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of CNC setup, operation, and programming experience.
- Previous experience in a toolroom or precision machining environment preferred.
- Experience with CNC mills and/or CNC lathes required.
- Experience programming with GibbsCAM software preferred.
- Hard turning or hard cutting experience is a plus.
- Plex manufacturing software experience is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical documents.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment, including eye and ear protection.
- Must wear OSHA-approved safety footwear.
Work Environment
This position operates in a manufacturing and machining environment with exposure to moving machinery, tooling, and production equipment. Candidates must follow all company safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
