Pharmacist

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, and according to standard procedure, an inpatient pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceuticals upon receiving orders from a licensed practitioner. The role involves performing all duties necessary to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental services and programs and supervising support personnel in all work areas as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

• Understand the Epic system to effectively review, verify, and prioritize orders using the chart to ensure medications prescribed are the appropriate dose, frequency, and administration times; avoid drug allergies, drug-drug interactions, drug-disease, and incompatibilities. Support the formulary.
• Accurately dispense properly labeled medications following the scanning process. Support and follow the most up-to-date USP guidelines (797/800). Understand the Abacus software / Baxa pump.
• Prioritize and monitor daily operational duties in assigned areas using support personnel effectively, including coordination of break and lunch (dinner), to ensure patient care services are maintained.
• Monitor drug supply and initiate orders as required, as well as regularly inspect pharmacy and assigned department inventory to ensure that drugs which are outdated are removed from stock.
• Properly maintain all pharmacy records as required by State, Federal, and Department of Pharmacy regulations for the dispensing and disposition of narcotics, dangerous drugs, and investigational drugs.
• Follow departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures.
• Promote a positive image in all dealings with all other hospital employees and hospital guests.
• Assist in the identification and problem-solving activities within the department and with other healthcare professionals. Show initiative for quality improvement.
  
  

Required Skills & Experience

• Demonstrated pharmacy practice skills.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication.
  
  

Preferred Skills & Experience

• One or two years of hospital experience.
  
  

Schedule Notes

• Shift: Evenings, shifts either 4x10s or 5x8s (training will be during Day shift)
• 13 weeks (with potential for extension)
• Interviews: In person preferred, video possible
  
  

Experience

3 years of hospital pharmacist experience (large medical center), Epic experience

Additional Skills

• Familiar with sterile compounding (overseeing/checking), order verification, checking sterile products, checking dose meds, checking Pyxis.
• Field questions from patients/doctors, IV room, Ecmo, CRRT, consults, antibiotic dosing, etc.
