A leading manufacturer in the commercial transportation industry is seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and development of innovative flatbed, drop deck, lowboy, and specialty trailer products.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys taking products from concept through production while collaborating with manufacturing, operations, suppliers, and customers to create durable, high-performing equipment.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and development of heavy-duty trailer products
- Create and review 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation
- Perform structural analysis, engineering calculations, and design validation
- Support prototype builds, product testing, and production launches
- Improve manufacturability, product quality, durability, and overall cost
- Work closely with manufacturing, operations, suppliers, and sales teams
- Solve engineering and production challenges through innovative design solutions
- Drive continuous improvement and value engineering initiatives
- Ensure products meet customer expectations and applicable industry regulations
- Provide technical leadership throughout the product development lifecycle
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5 years of design engineering experience
- Experience designing flatbed, lowboy, drop deck, specialty trailers, or other heavy-duty transportation equipment
- Strong CAD experience (AutoCAD and/or Siemens NX)
- Experience with metal fabrication, welding, and manufacturing processes
- Strong understanding of structural design principles
- Ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing and operations teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Heavy-duty trailer or transportation equipment experience
- Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, SAE, or related transportation standards
- Experience supporting new product launches
- Spanish language skills are a plus
