Senior Project Accountant / Accounting Manager

$90,000 – $120,000 base bonus & profit sharing
We’re partnering with a growing, highly respected professional services firm in Irvine to hire a Senior Project Accountant with flexibility to step into an Accounting Manager title for someone with strong people leadership skills.
This is a hands-on role for someone who loves project accounting, understands WIP and revenue recognition deeply, and enjoys partnering closely with Project Managers and leadership to drive financial performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own the full project accounting lifecycle, including contract setup, billing review, WIP analysis, and revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Prepare and analyze monthly revenue using percentage-of-completion, cost-plus, T&M, and milestone-based billing
- Review and reconcile WIP, unbilled, and deferred revenue, including write-ups and write-downs
- Serve as the QA/QC lead for billing—reviewing invoices for accuracy, contract compliance, rates, and reimbursables
- Partner closely with Project Managers on margins, burn rates, forecasts (EAC/ETC), and project performance
- Support month-end close, audits, and financial reporting in partnership with the CFO
- Mentor and oversee billing staff as needed (for candidates stepping into an Accounting Manager scope)
What We’re Looking For
- 5–8 years of project accounting experience in A&E, engineering, construction, or professional services
- Strong working knowledge of ASC 606, WIP accounting, and cost-plus billing
- Hands-on experience reviewing and approving billing packets
- Experience partnering with PMs and non-finance stakeholders
- Advanced Excel skills
- ERP experience strongly preferred (Deltek Vantagepoint, Ajera, Unanet, or similar)
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable rolling up your sleeves
Prior people management or mentoring experience is a plus but not required.
