Project Accounting Controller (Hands-On)

Up to $165,000 base bonus & profit sharing
We’re partnering with a growing, project-based professional services firm to hire a hands-on Project Accounting Controller who thrives in the details while leading a small accounting team.
This is not a traditional, high-level Controller role. This person must enjoy rolling up their sleeves, owning project accounting, revenue recognition, and billing, while also overseeing GL and AP functions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own project accounting end-to-end, including contract setup, revenue recognition (ASC 606), WIP, and billing review
- Act as the senior QA/QC authority for complex billing (cost-plus, T&M, percentage-of-completion)
- Review and analyze WIP, unbilled, deferred revenue, and margin performance
- Partner closely with Project Managers on project performance, forecasts (EAC/ETC), and risk
- Oversee and support the GL and AP team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting
- Support month-end close, audits, and reporting in partnership with the CFO
- Improve project accounting processes, controls, and ERP utilization
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years of accounting experience in A&E, engineering, construction, or professional services
- Deep hands-on expertise with project accounting, WIP, and ASC 606
- Prior experience overseeing GL and AP teams while remaining operationally involved
- Strong billing and revenue review background (not just high-level oversight)
- ERP experience preferred (Deltek Vantagepoint, Ajera, Unanet, or similar)
- Comfortable in a growing, fast-moving, onsite environment
