Overview
The Practice Manager serves as a strategic business partner to practice group leadership, responsible for driving the operational and financial success of one or more practice groups. This role focuses on improving profitability, attorney productivity, and team cohesion, while ensuring alignment with firm-wide goals. The Practice Manager combines strategic planning, financial analysis, and people management to enhance group efficiency and overall performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Partner with practice group leaders to manage day-to-day operations and ensure alignment with firm policies and best practices.
- Support the development and execution of strategic and business plans.
- Lead preparation and coordination of practice group meetings, retreats, and performance reviews.
- Analyze group performance reports, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
- Manage and execute group-level initiatives that support firm-wide strategic priorities.
Financial Management
- Collaborate with leadership and finance teams to interpret key metrics, including productivity, realization, WIP, and collections.
- Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Provide financial insights to support resource allocation and budget accountability.
Attorney Workflow, Productivity & Development
- Oversee staffing and utilization to ensure balanced workloads and optimal leverage.
- Work with professional development to support attorney training, evaluations, and performance management.
- Identify and address underutilization to improve engagement and productivity.
Recruitment & Integration
- Evaluate and develop business cases for lateral hires based on strategic needs.
- Oversee onboarding, integration, and offboarding processes for attorneys.
- Coordinate with leadership and HR to ensure smooth transitions and role alignment.
Leadership Support & Culture
- Advise practice group leaders on management strategies and operational best practices.
- Foster collaboration, transparency, and inclusivity within the group.
- Communicate key priorities and updates to ensure engagement with firm goals.
Business Development & Marketing
- Partner with business development teams to align marketing initiatives with group strategy.
- Support implementation and follow-through on group-specific business development efforts.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA or JD) preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in practice management or a related operational role within a law or consulting firm.

Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience, skills, and market factors. The anticipated salary range for this position is $145,000 – $170,000.
