TITLE: Mid Shore Special Education Consortium (MSSEC)

           Physical Therapist

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Maryland licensure as a Physical Therapist

 

PREFERRED: Doctorate in Physical Therapy

 

REPORTS TO: MSSEC Advisory Board

 

JOB GOALS: The therapist functions as a member of the educational 

Team to evaluate children, plan programs, and administer Physical therapy to identify special education 

students who require physical therapy to benefit from their special education programs.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Evaluate the student’s level of function and determine the need for intervention.
  2. Develops IEP goals for students requiring direct or consultative services.
  3. Plans, initiates, and periodically re-evaluates treatment programs.
  4. Provides direct service/consultation for students at the assigned school in accordance with the IEP.
  5. Instructs and assists educational and administrative personnel in efficient and safe handling of transportation chairs, positioning equipment, adaptive devices, prostheses, and orthoses.
  6. Advises and assists teachers in preparing and implementing physical management and developmental programs within the classroom including activities of daily living (transfers, dressing skills, toileting, feeding, etc.).
  7. Coordinates efforts with other therapists and school  personnel for the purpose of achieving uniformity of goals.
  8. Consults with and serves as a resource for parents, other institutions, and school personnel.
  9. Consults with a child’s physical/primary care center whenever necessary regarding diagnosis and precautions.
  10. Attends, instructs, and/or assists in workshops and in-service education.
  11. Assigns, orders, adjusts, adapts, maintains and repairs special equipment, as needed, including braces, prostheses, ambulation aides, wheelchairs, and splints.
  12. Assists with inventory and requisitioning of supplies and equipment.
  13. Prepares written progress report monthly and performs annual review one month before the due date.  
  14. Submits annual written review information to the IEP team prior to the IEP Team meeting convening.
  15. Prepares a written statement of progress each quarter for inclusion in the report card.
  16. Maintains accurate records for Medical Assistance billing.
  17. Document therapy, goals, progress, absences, parent/staff consultations no less than once per month, and maintain files on all assigned pupils.
  18. Contacts parent by phone/personal note at least two times per year.
  19. Completes end-of-year statistical/information forms on the school and children.
  20. Serves as a member of the IEP Team as requested.
  21. Maintains positive rapport with school, principals, secretaries, and IEP team teaching and therapy staff, and parents.
  22. Performs additional duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt position. Eleven-month work year.   Salary

to be established by the MSSEC Advisory Board
