What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary School Counselor position at Talbot County Public Schools?
QUALIFICATIONS: Eligibility for Professional Certification by the Maryland
State Department of Education as a Guidance Counselor.
REPORTS TO: Principal and Supervisor of Student Services
JOB GOAL: Facilitate self-management skills, interpersonal relations skills, and
educational/career decision- making skills, among students through
effective counseling, planning, counseling, appraisal, and
information/placement services.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides individual and group counseling services.
2. Provides parent, teacher, and interagency consulting services.
3. Coordinates appropriate individual and group Career guidance activities (i.e.
“career competencies”, “career exploration”, and “career decision-making”).
4. Conducts general educational planning/transitioning activities (i.e. Elementary/
Middle or Middle/High School Orientation, “5 Year Plans of Study”, etc).
5. Conducts post-secondary educational planning activities (i.e., college/technical
school decision-making, college/technical school presentations, SAT Prep,
PSAT, early financial aid awareness, etc.
6. Conducts evening counseling sessions each month for parents (individual
appointments and group activities).
7. Serves as a case manager and as a regular member of the Student Services
Team and on other school-based teams as needed.
8. Interprets appropriate test data (achievement test data, aptitude test data, and
Interest test data).
9. Manages student records, student scheduling, and general information about
Students and for students
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
