What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resident Advisor - Residential Corrections (3rd Shift) position at Talbert House?
Position Summary: Is a team member in a residential behavioral health setting, helping to provide a supportive, therapeutic environment for clients in recovery and/or treatment for behavioral health (including SUD) disorders or addiction. Performs duties according to the program’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to maintain a safe and secure setting for clients and staff within a 24-7 residential program setting. Ensures client needs are met and program protocols are followed at all times. Must be able to cover additional shifts or complete mandatory overtime outside normally assigned schedule when needed.
Position Description:
- Monitor client activities to ensure program guidelines are followed and appropriate client care is provided
- Make regular rounds as required by the program of buildings/grounds to ensure safety, security and optimal facility operations
- Complete all documentation requirements accurately and on time, in writing or using computer-based programs or databases, on a daily basis for assigned shifts.
- Assist clients in making appropriate decisions, recognize behavior changes and monitor client movement
- Distribution of medications, including monitoring and documenting dosage and schedule
- Direct observation of client Drug Screens, including UAs
- Conduct searches of clients, including same gender pat-downs, client belongings and facilities
- Provide on-going oversight of client activity
- Respond to emergencies, which include but are not limited to medical or mental health emergencies, overdose, threatening or violent behavior, and client AWOLs.
- Manage incidents using conflict resolution and crisis management techniques
- Maintain appropriate, strictly professional boundaries with staff and clients
- Complete all required training in Core Correctional Practices and apply learning to daily interactions
- Perform routine non-clinical intake duties as required
- Operate vehicle to transport clients as required
- Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Intermediate level problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task
- Effective use of computer and basic data management for record-keeping purposes
- Basic conflict resolution/crisis management skills and techniques
- Driving if required by program
Job Requirements:
- High School Graduate or high school equivalency
- 0-2 years of experience
- Valid driver license and auto insuranc
Essential Functions/Physical Demands:
- Positional: Driving in accordance with job duties assigned. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional sitting.
- Gross Mobility: Rare climbing, or crawling. Frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Frequent to constant reaching and handling.
- May require ability to walk up to 4 flights of stairs consecutively, depending on location.
- Sensory: Rare smelling. Infrequent use of color vision. Occasional use of far visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision. Frequent use of near and midrange visual acuity, and visual accommodation. Frequent to constant talking/communicating.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer.
