Instructional Designer

Talascend is currently seeking an Instructional Designer for a contract opportunity with our client in Warren, Michigan.

Overview

The instructional designer – manufacturing supports the development of high-quality learning solutions tailored to manufacturing needs, enhancing workforce capabilities and operational performance across plant environments.

Responsibilities

• Advise manufacturing partners, plant stakeholders, and subject matter experts on adult learning principles and performance-based strategies.
• Conduct needs analyses to identify performance gaps, root causes, and recommend targeted learning interventions.
• Partner with SMEs, stakeholders, and leaders through interviews, observation, and sessions to validate learning needs and understand operational realities.
• Design and develop engaging learning experiences using models like ADDIE, SAM, rapid prototyping, and scenario-based learning.
• Create multi-modal learning assets including eLearning, ILT/VILT materials, videos, workshops, simulations, and job aids.
• Write or refine instructional materials, facilitator guides, scripts, and communication pieces translating technical concepts into clear learning content.
• Collaborate with teams and manage projects using agile approaches to streamline development and respond to shifting priorities.
• Support LMS setup and integration of manufacturing learning materials.

Qualifications

• 4 years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or eLearning supported by manufacturing, engineering, operations, or quality environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 2 years supporting plant operations, manufacturing launches, or shop-floor capability building.
• Experience designing and developing web-based training (WBT) and instructor-led training (ILT), including blended solutions.
• Strong understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and modern learning strategies.
• Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office, Articulate (Storyline and Rise), Vyond, video and design software.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences and ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Work samples of eLearning, ILT/VILT materials, scenarios, and performance support tools.
• Experience creating learning topics such as safety systems, troubleshooting, ergonomics, or lean/continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of workplace safety expectations and regulated operational environments.
• Graphic design, visual storytelling, or user-centered design experience.
• Strong facilitation skills for ILT/VILT sessions and stakeholder alignment.
• Experience with Action Mapping, Design Thinking, scenario-based learning, or branching design.
• Experience working in large, matrixed organizations with cross-functional partners.

The shift is standard daytime hours. Travel is rare and limited to local destinations within Michigan.
