Overview
We are currently seeking an IT Support Specialist to support a large IT program for the Department of Veteran Affairs. This role involves deploying, imaging, and setting up various computer equipment across VA medical centers and offsite training locations. The position combines technical responsibilities with a focus on delivering high-quality customer service and requires minimal supervision.
Education & Certification Requirements
A bachelor's degree in a STEM field is preferred. Alternatively, a high school diploma or GED with 8 years of professional experience in an IT-related environment, or 1 year of relevant experience along with relevant certifications, may also qualify.
Clearance Requirements
Public Trust clearance is required.
Onsite Requirements
This role is onsite at Veterans' Administration Medical Centers and offsite training locations, with daytime hours and potential evening or weekend hours.
Responsibilities
- Support large-scale deployment, imaging, and setup of IT equipment including PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, and network components.
- Unbox, install, configure, remove, and re-pack hardware for shipment with limited supervision.
- Transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across site campuses, using personal transportation when necessary.
- Set up equipment at various training sites and perform routine system administration tasks.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, including system imaging, hardware repairs, and upgrades.
- Maintain detailed logs of troubleshooting activities and system administration tasks.
- Support high-availability systems and networks, adhering to debugging protocols and processes.
- Provide excellent customer service throughout all technical support activities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience supporting hardware and software, including troubleshooting, system imaging, and hardware repair.
- Ability to transport and install IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Experience with system deployment and refresh projects.
- Familiarity with hardware support, troubleshooting, and network maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- US citizenship or Green Card is required.
Desired Skills
- Experience with ServiceNow ticketing system is a plus.
- Prior experience supporting VA systems or similar environments.
