Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Direct Support Professional role based in Cleveland, OH. The Direct Support Professional will provide daily support to individuals with developmental disabilities, including assistance with personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders per agency guidelines, and household tasks. The role involves supporting individuals in developing independent living skills, participating in community activities, and achieving personal goals. Responsibilities include implementing individualized service plans, documenting services and progress, and following all safety, health, and compliance procedures. The Direct Support Professional will also assist with transportation to appointments and community outings, communicate effectively with supervisors and families or guardians as appropriate, and contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to provide respectful, person-centered support, including assistance with daily living activities and personal care.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills to build trust and rapport with individuals, families or guardians, and team members.
- Reliability in following individualized service plans, documenting services accurately, and adhering to agency and regulatory guidelines.
- Ability to assist with safe transportation, community integration, and participation in recreational and social activities.
- Capacity to remain calm, patient, and solution-focused in challenging situations while promoting dignity and choice.
- Basic problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities during a shift.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; prior experience in developmental disabilities, human services, or caregiving is preferred but not required.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, which may include lifting, transferring, and extended periods of standing or walking, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation as required by agency policies.
- Ability to pass background checks, required trainings, and any state or agency-mandated certifications within specified timeframes.
