Responsibilities
- Prepare sushi and other Japanese dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
- Assist in menu planning and ingredient selection for sushi offerings
- Handle food preparation tasks including slicing fish, preparing rice, and assembling sushi rolls
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area in compliance with food safety regulations
- Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures are followed at all times
- Support the kitchen team during busy service hours by preparing ingredients and assisting with plating
- Contribute to maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for guests through excellent food service practices
- Follow all safety protocols related to knife skills, equipment use, and food handling
Experience
- Previous experience in a culinary setting, particularly in sushi preparation or Japanese cuisine preferred
- Background in the food industry, including restaurant or catering experience, is highly desirable
- Skills in menu planning, meal preparation, and food presentation are advantageous
- Knowledge of food safety standards and proper handling techniques is essential
- Experience with dietary department or dietary aide roles can be beneficial but not required
- Familiarity with kitchen operations such as cooking, food service, and serving will support success in this role
