Duties
- Prepare and assemble sushi using traditional techniques, ensuring freshness and aesthetic appeal
- Maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation throughout all food handling processes
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to plan menus that highlight seasonal ingredients and customer preferences
- Execute food preparation tasks including slicing, rolling, and plating with precision and speed
- Manage ingredient inventory, monitor stock levels, and ensure proper storage of perishables
- Uphold cleanliness standards in the sushi station and overall kitchen area to meet health regulations
- Assist with catering orders and special events by preparing sushi platters and other Japanese cuisine items
- Serve dishes promptly while maintaining excellent customer service standards during peak hours
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a sushi chef or kitchen chef with a strong background in Japanese cuisine or fine dining environments
- Demonstrated knife skills with the ability to prepare ingredients efficiently and safely
- Knowledge of food safety protocols and proper food handling techniques
- Experience with menu planning, food preparation, and meal presentation in a restaurant or catering setting
- Familiarity with the food industry’s best practices for hygiene, sanitation, and safety standards
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple orders simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively within a team and deliver outstanding service
- Dietary department or dietary aide experience is a plus but not required; enthusiasm for learning new culinary techniques is valued
