As the Tahoe Donner Association Forestry Crew Supervisor you will be the primary leader responsible for the health, safety, and motivation of the Forestry Crew. The Forestry Supervisor is responsible for supervising forestry crews engaged in the removal of trees and plant materials for Tahoe Donner Association projects and performs related duties as required. Under general direction, from the Forestry Department Manager and Assistant Forester, the position plans, develops, organizes, analyzes, directs and evaluates a variety of forestry programs. This position is the primary supervisor for the forestry crew and is responsible for the health and safety, training, motivation, and coordination of the forestry crew.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide excellent customer service to members, guests, business partners and employees. Ensures all staff meet or exceed the highest level of guest service in the performance of their duties.
- Interview and hire staff in the HRIS system, submitting required paperwork to HR in a timely manner. Orient, train, direct, motivate, evaluate and discipline all assigned staff and oversee work schedules in accordance with Tahoe Donner Association policies.
- Maintain current knowledge of Forestry trends including technical and equipment trends by participation in other local, regional and/or national association meetings and seminars.
- Ensures compliance with all safety regulations and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program. Implement and evaluate effectiveness of established safety procedures and policies designed to reduce work related accidents and general liability exposure for Tahoe Donner Association. Collaborate and implement appropriate incident reporting techniques including emergency action plan with the Risk Department.
- Implement complex fuel reduction projects for Tahoe Donner Association. Works with and oversees the forestry crew on-site, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed, and quality and timeliness of work.
- Develops and implements work plans and prepares timelines for the completion of projects.
- Monitor and submit purchase requests for equipment, materials and supplies.
- Inspects and assess trees and other plant materials to determine the quality, rate of growth, and insect and disease damage.
- Inspects equipment for proper condition and operation and authorizes repairs or replacement as necessary.
- Trains and oversees training of assigned staff on forestry techniques and equipment usage, in accordance with ANSI standards
- Tracks and approves assigned staff timecards. Tracks crew hours worked on each project.
- Monitors productivity and performance of forestry crews, including discipline as required, and prepares related activity reports.

What We’re Looking For:
- Ability to develop and sustain an effective forestry program.
- Competence in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, and GPS software
- Ability to prepare work orders and develop related documents.
- Skilled in identifying trees and characteristic features of trees in the region.
- Skilled in tree rigging, pruning, planting, felling and removal, line clearance, and overall tree care and maintenance.
- Knowledge of supervisory techniques, project planning, modern arborist practices and skills including conservation, and hazard tree awareness.
- Requires possession of valid Class C Driver License with a driving record meeting the minimum standards required by the Association insurance carrier.
These skills and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of an associate degree from a two-year college or trade school and six months to one-year related experience and/or training in forestry management and tree health or an equivalent combination of formal training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform all of the duties of the position.
