Job Overview – Youth Development Coach (Foster Care & Education):
Compensation: $28/hour
Location: Bronx, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (35 Hours/Week)
TAG MedStaffing is hiring a Youth Development Coach (Foster Care & Education) in Bronx, NY for our client, supporting academic success, career readiness, housing stability, and social-emotional development for youth in care. In this temporary role, you will provide individualized coaching, educational advocacy, and independent living support while collaborating with schools and community partners. Ideal candidates bring experience working with at-risk youth and a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach.
Responsibilities as the Youth Development Coach:
- Youth Coaching & Relationship Building: Build and maintain consistent relationships with young people while providing social, emotional, academic, and career-focused coaching.
- Academic Advocacy & Planning: Support school engagement through transcript review, school visits, educational advocacy, coordination of tutoring and accommodations, and assistance with transfers to appropriate academic programs.
- Post-Secondary & Career Development: Guide youth through college, vocational, and workforce pathways, including applications, financial aid, career exploration, and persistence coaching.
- Housing, Life Skills & Collaboration: Support housing stability and independent living skills while collaborating with case planners, specialists, schools, caregivers, and community partners.
Qualifications for the Youth Development Coach (Foster Care & Education):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Human Services, or a related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience providing 1:1 support to at-risk youth or youth involved in the child welfare or foster care system.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel with the ability to learn case management and data systems.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with NYC Department of Education systems, college application processes, and NYCHA or housing application workflows.
- Skills & Attributes: Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively using trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to support diverse youth populations.
- Language Skills: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
