About the Role
We are seeking an experienced RN Clinical Director to lead hospice patient care services for a high-volume outpatient hospice location. This position oversees all clinical operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and provides leadership to an interdisciplinary care team. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, collaborative leader who is ready to mentor staff, drive quality care, and grow a strong, service-oriented culture.
This is the lead role for the office; candidates must be confident managing a large census and diverse team with limited onsite executive oversight.
Key Details
- Daily Census: 50–60 patients
- Caseload: No personal patient caseload; provides support as needed
- Setting: Outpatient hospice; no care centers attached
- Reports To: Director based in NC
Team Oversight (Approx. 18 Direct Reports):
- 6 Case Manager RNs
- 3 On-Call Nurses
- 2 Social Workers
- 5–6 Aides
- 1 Chaplain
- 1 Administrative Support
What We're Looking For
Required Experience:
- Hospice experience is mandatory
- Minimum 3 years of management experience (charge nurse experience alone will not qualify)
- Experience with hiring, performance management, and operations beyond a single shift
- Must be mid-career — not nearing retirement — and eager to grow into or continue strong leadership roles
- Ability to lead through service, not authority; collaborative leadership style is essential
- Must be comfortable multitasking, wearing many hats, and stepping in to support the team when needed
Preferred Qualities:
- Strong understanding of hospice regulations and compliance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to guide, mentor, and build a cohesive clinical team
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to support high census operations
Responsibilities
- Oversee all clinical hospice operations and ensure high-quality, compliant patient care
- Supervise and support interdisciplinary team members (RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Social Workers, Chaplain, etc.)
- Lead interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings and care plan coordination
- Drive hiring, staff development, coaching, and retention efforts
- Partner with admissions and community partners to ensure seamless patient care
- Monitor documentation, compliance, and quality improvement initiatives
- Serve as a clinical resource and advocate for patients, families, and staff
- Manage budgets and resource allocation
