1. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental, Industrial, or related field
2. 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
3. Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards
4. Experience with safety programs, compliance, audits, and incident investigations
• This is a hands-on EHS leadership role -not a coordinator or specialist level
• Ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing experience and be comfortable operating independently without direct reports
EHS Manager to join a leading Company located in the Columbia, MO surrounding area.
Pay: $95K -$105K
Responsibilities:
- Manages and directs the site in achieving EHS targets & objectives.
- Directs development, maintenance, and achievement of goals in support of corporate and business group EHS strategic initiatives.
- Facilitates quantifiable hazard assessments at the location to identify and educate employees on critical 'at-risk' EHS aspects.
- Works with the leadership team to create targets and objectives based on key EHS risks.
- Determines appropriate leading and lagging indicators to track performance against targets and objectives.
- Supports creation of EHS goals for the site based on goals for the leadership team, functional managers, and front-line supervisors to drive EHS culture, compliance, and results (to include not only safety indicators but also waste, recycling, training, and carbon emissions).
- Works to assign EHS element champions and facilitate their engagement in ownership of the EHS elements.
- Drives and promotes a zero-incident EHS culture throughout the site.
- Supports site injury management program, including participation in incident investigations and OSHA 300 Log ownership.
- Creates and facilitates EHS engagement through EHS teams and committees needed to accomplish the established targets and objectives for the year.
- Works with the leadership team and EHS element champions to complete an annual evaluation of compliance for EHS country, state, and local regulations.
- Pursues third-party recognition for programs that establish the site and our EHS program as world-class.
- Uses established EHS data processes (e.g., GKAR, 5 WHY's, etc.) to manage data related to injuries and illnesses, environmental metrics, risk assessments, internal/external audits, EHS action items, and other pertinent information.
- Create training matrices to ensure that all training is defined and tracked to completion.
- Work with the site leadership team and facilities to ensure that all key EHS operational controls and safety inspections are in place, a Preventive Maintenance program is operational, and that EHS action items are resolved on a timely basis.
- Assist in Work-Related Injury and Case Management as needed.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Basic Hiring Criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, industrial engineering, environmental discipline, or equivalent.
- Advanced degree or professional certification (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager).
- Strong team-building skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Adept at the utilization of the company-wide system for reporting EHS data and information.
- Ability to demonstrate managerial courage (e.g., managing varied interests representing potential conflicts).
- Ability to lead and support cross-functional EHS teams.
- Prior experience or education with an emphasis in environmental, health, and safety program management, Behavior-Based Safety, and employee training.
- Proficiency in local languages; Bilingual preferred.
- Repetitive motion and ergonomic injury prevention.
- First Aid, emergency response, and/or incident commander experience.
- Root cause analysis or 5-why practitioner.
- ISO 14001 and/or 45001.
- Familiarity with UN Sustainable Development Goals preferred.
