Senior Accountant

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for general accounting operations and financial reporting on a professional level and works closely with the Assistant Controller and other management personnel. This position carries out responsibilities for all accounting areas including maintaining the general ledger, financial reporting, reconciling account balances and bank statements and ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in company’s accounting reporting. Preparing reports for external auditors; participates in physical inventory and maintains controls to ensure accurate perpetual inventory.

Essential Job Functions:

• Formulate and recommend accounting policies and make recommendations to improve existing accounting system. Monitors various financial activities and prepares reports.
• Prepares journal entries and participates with month end close, performs complex reconciliations.
• Participate directly in external audit, work with external auditors and prepares work papers.
• Reconciles general ledger accounts and bank statements.
• Works with various systems including Accounting, Point of Sale and Inventory Systems and various Excel and data base worksheets.
• Participates in updating policies and procedures related to finance and accounting activities.
• Assists the Controller and Assistant Controller in identifying and mitigating organizational risks.
• Assists with Federal and Hawaii tax reports and responsible for timely payments and reconciliations.
• Continuously documents processes and procedures and recommends improvements for all assigned duties.
• Maintains professionalism in his/her actions and appearance.
• Communicates effectively with all departments of the company including Stores, Buying, Warehouse, Marketing and the Factory and proposes ideas that would assist the company in work efficiency and bottom line savings.
• Remains flexible to assist company as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience:

5 years of progressively increasing complex accounting experience: Accounting software and Excel proficiency required.

Preferred Education:

Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Working conditions:

Primarily performed in an office setting, long periods of sitting and computer/keyboard use; reading documents; spreadsheet calculations; phone and other electronic equipment. Typing dexterity needed; minimal lifting (<20lbs.), standing.
