Utility Floater Job Position Summary:

T&B Tube is currently hiring for entry level, Utility Floaters, at our location in Gary, Indiana. As a Utility Floater, you will be rotating jobs as a Mill Helper to a Blowout Tech. As a Mill Helper, you will be packaging tubing and verifying piece counts as it is produced off the mill per shop copy or standard packaging instructions and inspects banding equipment to ensure packages are packaged neatly and to prescribed packaging safety standards. Blowout Tech's remove weld scarf from tubes in order to prepare them for the recut department or customer. Recut material handlers locate materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials and supplies listed on production orders by use of overhead cranes and forklift trucks. Also locates and packs materials for shipping. Documents materials and records units delivered and location of units.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Embraces the 1 T.E.A.M. culture
  • Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work and in accordance with Safety Policy and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by practicing safe work habits, good housekeeping procedures and adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Assist in installing compliance with work order, work instructions and/or customer specs while following all safety guidelines.
  • Perform final check for material condition & takes appropriate steps for handling.
  • Coordinate the movement of finished goods by material handlers to inventory locations
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Move material into racks and warehouse with crane and forklift.
  • Repack bundles as needed.
  • Rework nonconforming product based on QA instructions.
  • Fill in for recut and mills as needed.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Forklift/crane certified
  • Ability to use computers, read tape measures, micrometers and calipers
  • Dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs
  • Strong focus and attention to detail
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours/days as needed
  • Able to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the company
  • Able to read and comprehend simple work instructions, work orders, short correspondence and memos written in English
  • Able to write simple correspondence in English

Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Industry knowledge and experience, a plus
