Qualifications:
- Massachusetts licensure as Supervisor/Director, Principal/Assistant Principal, or Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
- Master’s Degree or higher with concentration in Educational Administration/Leadership
- At least five years teaching and/or professional experience at the middle/secondary school level
- SEI Teacher or Administrator Endorsement
- Demonstrated command of principles of curriculum development, curriculum frameworks, high quality instruction, formative and summative assessment, and the role of universal design for learning (UDL) within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS)
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across all roles and responsibilities
- Such other qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable and appropriate
Responsibilities:
The Director of Teaching & Learning provides leadership to all educators and instructional leaders in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional growth. Working directly with teachers, specialists, support staff, instructional leadership, and principals, the Director of Teaching & Learning will oversee, guide, and evaluate pedagogy and the development or creation of curricula materials for all grades, PreK through 22, for all disciplines.

- Partner with the Director of Student Services to
- Review, communicate, and support use of practices aligned with the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) across academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning.
- Align data-driven decision making with the principles of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), including protocols for school Instructional Support Teams (IST).
- Assist in the management of student behavior and discipline, including the development and implementation of Restorative Justice/Practices for staff and students (e.g., workshops, circles, implementation)
- Research and recommend instructional strategies, intervention, and various resources to inform instruction and intervention within and among tiers.
- Gather, analyze, interpret, use, and present data to inform teaching, learning, and instructional leadership relative to district and school goals.
- Coordinate and supervise the Grade Level Leaders, K - 6.
- Supervise and evaluate the Teaching & Learning Specialist, the Learning Partnerships Specialist, and the district’s team of Department Heads.
- Coordinate and facilitate Curriculum Council and Instructional Leadership meetings and ongoing efforts.
- Oversee and coordinate local (e.g., screeners, benchmarks, and common assessments), state (e.g., MCAS, ACCESS), and national assessment (e.g., PISA, NAEP) series.
- Oversee process for developing, coordinating, and communicating graduation requirements in partnership with instructional leaders.
- Ensure the vertical and horizontal articulation of curricula, instructional best practices, and assessments, PreK - 22.
- Serve as advisor to school leaders and teachers on all aspects of teaching and learning with a focus on ensuring consistency and accountability.
- Collaborate in the ongoing review of school programs specific to teaching and learning.
- Communicate successes to help tell the story of the district, student learning, and the Clipper Experience.
- Collaborate with school and district leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of school success goals and maintain records for local and state reporting requirements.
- Provide timely reports of new and ongoing initiatives and learning outcomes.
- Coordinate and supervise the district’s Mentoring & Induction program, including orientation activities at the start of each school year.
- Coordinate professional learning for the district, including the development, facilitation, and implementation of professional learning for leaders, educators, and staff.
- Maintain a long-range vision of teaching and learning
- Manage budget in the Office of Teaching & Learning, including collaboration with colleagues to forecast short- and long-term needs and program replacements and maintenance of accurate inventories of physical and digital materials.
- Assist with annual district budget development and management, including compiling requests and ordering/receiving procedures.
- Oversee and assist in the preparation of local and state reports and communication of goals, actions, and outcomes associated with these reports.
- Facilitate and maintain positive school-community relations, nurturing community partnerships to enrich and extend teaching and learning
- Coordinate and oversee the Educator Evaluation system for all professional staff; assist with state reporting relative to this effort.
- Coordinate and ensure currency of teaching and learning content on district, school, and department webpages.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal education laws and regulations (e.g., student data privacy and federal grants).
- Coordinate HQIM processes.
- Oversee and facilitate state monitoring requirements for Career Technical Education (CTE) and English Language Education (ELE).
- Remain current with initiatives and requirements by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Assist principals in the hiring process as needed.
- Assist Human Resources team with transcript review.
- Coordinate and oversee records and communications related to Educator Licensure.
- Coordinate and oversee course pre-approval and tuition reimbursement processes.
- Update and present to the School Committee on matters of consequence related to teaching and learning and/or in response to their direct inquiries.
- Oversee pre-approval and grant applications for external grants sought by in-service educators and students.
- Assist with development of policies and administrative guidelines for all undertakings that affect teaching and learning, PreK - 12.
- Serve as grant manager for federal entitlement grant programs.
- Create and publish annual calendars for professional learning, grade level/department meetings, staff meetings, and administrative meetings.
- Coordinate and manage the Title 1 program, including records and reports in accordance with Title 1 regulations and the supervision and evaluation of Title 1 funded staff.
- Coordinate and manage the Perkins funded programming, including records and reports in accordance with Perkins regulations and the supervision and evaluation of Perkins supported efforts.
- Serve as part of district Title IX and Civil Rights response teams.
- Such other tasks and responsibilities consistent with the goals and objectives of this role.
- Such other responsibilities as the Superintendent of Schools may deem appropriate.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
SALARY: $145,000 to $155,000 per year
