What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service Supervisor - Heavy Equipment position at Systematic Business Consulting?
Job Summary: This is not a desk role — it is a hands-on Field Service Supervisor who leads by example. The Field Service Supervisor manages day-to-day operations of the Field Service Department, dispatches and develops technicians, and serves as the primary point of contact for customers during and outside regular business hours. This is a player-coach operations role supporting heavy construction equipment in the field.
For now, this opportunity has a need near Dayton, OH, and possibly near Cincinnati, as well.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical background in heavy equipment combined with proven supervisory and dispatching experience. The ability to lead a team, communicate clearly with customers under pressure, and keep service operations running efficiently is essential.
Ideal Candidate Background: We are looking for experienced heavy equipment professionals who are ready to lead. Typical backgrounds include:
- Field Service Technicians stepping into a supervisory or lead role
- Senior Shop or Field Technicians with dispatching and crew coordination experience
- Service Coordinators or Foremen with hands-on heavy equipment knowledge
- Senior/Management-level Military equipment mechanics transitioning into civilian service leadership
- Dealer or OEM background preferred — e.g., Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Volvo, CASE, or similar
Key Competencies
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer interaction skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced field service environment
- Experience dispatching and scheduling service technicians
- Commitment to team development, technician training, and process improvement
- High motivation, organizational ability, and a strong teamwork ethic
- Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with Caterpillar systems
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical college or continued education a plus
- Prior mechanical knowledge of heavy construction equipment; Caterpillar product experience strongly preferred
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Previous dispatching experience required
- Exceptional knowledge of construction equipment systems and service operations
