Overview:
We are seeking a degreed Welding Engineer who will play a critical role in both welding engineering and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) within a hands-on manufacturing environment. This position requires a strong technical foundation in welding processes, materials, and fabrication, combined with a disciplined approach to quality standards, inspection, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable on the production floor and in documentation, ensuring that products meet all applicable codes, specifications, and customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and implement welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualification records (WPQ).
- Provide day-to-day engineering support for welding and fabrication operations.
- Lead and support QA/QC activities including inspections, audits, and root cause analysis.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, API as applicable).
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve welding and fabrication issues.
- Review drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure proper execution.
- Oversee non-destructive examination (NDE) processes and interpret results.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and quality enhancement.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to welding and quality processes.
- Participate in internal and external audits and support customer/vendor inspections.
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline (required).
- Strong knowledge of welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, etc.) and metallurgy.
- Experience with QA/QC principles in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (AWS, ASME, API, ISO).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
