System One is seeking to hire a Senior Mechanical Designer for a long-term contract opportunity, with a remote work model.
In this role, you will both create and check structural and mechanical design solutions, 3D CAD models and engineering drawings for the conceptual and preliminary design development for advanced Generation IV reactors. Candidates must have extensive experience in mechanical/structural design and drafting using a mainstream CAD system.

Responsibilities
- Create CAD models, optimized for anticipated future work, of detailed designs
- Assist with modeling structure for large, complex design projects.
- Maintain large assembly models in support of projects
- Create engineering drawings, applying ASME 14.1 and Y15.5 standards
- Check engineering drawings for equipment arrangements, piping arrangements, isometrics, layouts, machine design, mechanical system, etc. verify information represented is accurate and drafting standards are met.
- Verify fit, form and function for completeness of designs
- Perform tolerance stack up analysis in support of design verification
- Oversee model space for clash detection and lead resolution activities
- Assist with development of group design standards
- Assist in coordination of CAD group deliverables
Ideal Background
- Min. Trade school certificate, associate degree preferred, in design related program with 10 years of experience
- Proficiency with CAD programs, SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferred
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical system and machine design.
- Demonstrated experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Demonstrated experience with tolerance analysis stack-ups
- Experience with plant layout, piping layout, PFD and P&ID drawing creation
- Experience using a product data management (PDM) system
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
- Nuclear design experience preferred but not required
- Organized and highly detail oriented
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker
- Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
- Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week
