Overview
The Power Controls & Automation Engineer supports manufacturing operations through the design, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of industrial control systems and automation platforms. This role works closely with engineering and production teams to improve equipment reliability, process efficiency, and system performance in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and innovate in electrical design, programming, and digitization of automated, robotic, and information systems within Power Controls and Information Systems (PC&IS).
- Lead process improvements focusing on material utilization, safety, and cost reduction.
- Own and build Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Human to Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
- Lead manufacturing lines and machine controls.
- Apply knowledge in power systems, computing, network technologies, machine control, and instrumentation.
- Ensure adherence to electrical safety regulations and best practices.
- Read electrical schematics and troubleshoot industrial networking platforms and control software.
- Utilize software such as Factorytalk-HMI, Wonderware, and ControlLogix for HMI development and PLC programming.
- Possess familiarity with IT/Networking, databases, and programming languages like Python, Java, and SQL (plus).
- 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment within controls and automation disciplines.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and solve problems efficiently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, HMI development tools, and PLC programming.
- Familiarity with control circuits, electrical schematics, and instrumentation systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of industrial environments, processes, and safety standards such as OSHA 1910, NFPA 70, 70E, 79.
- Experience with industrial networks and safety standards (DeviceNet, ControlNet, I/O, EthernetIP, etc.).
- Knowledge of 480/277VAC 3-phase, 208/120VAC 3-phase, and 24VDC, 4-20mA, 0-5V, 0-10V control circuits.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot networking and control software.
- Knowledge and capability to work with HTML/XML, and programming skills in Python/Java with SQL experience is a plus.
