Flight Control Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and autonomous Flight Control Engineer to design, evaluate, and maintain safety-critical flight control systems for advanced fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. In this role, you will bridge the gap between aerodynamics and embedded systems, developing the core control laws, stability enhancement systems, and automated flight management capabilities that keep our aircraft safe and predictable.

You will own the lifecycle of flight controls—from defining system architecture and tuning autopilot loops in MATLAB/Simulink to analyzing real-time data from ground labs and flight test campaigns. Working cross-functionally with avionics, software, and mechanical teams, you will ensure our systems meet rigorous performance margins and DO-178C airworthiness standards.

What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities):

• Develop Control Laws: Design, tune, and refine classical and modern control loops to optimize aircraft stability, ride quality, and automated guidance algorithms.
• System Simulation & Test: Leverage model-based workflows to conduct desktop simulations, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) lab testing, and airborne test data analysis.
• Safety & Architecture: Define system-level requirements (via DOORS) and engineer fault-detection logic, redundancy management, and failure-consequence analysis.
• Cross-Functional Integration: Collaborate with software and avionics engineers to integrate control laws seamlessly onto real-time embedded flight computers and data buses.

What You Bring (Top Qualifications):

• Education: Degree (BS, MS, or PhD) in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: ~5 years of proven experience in aircraft flight controls, avionics, or autopilot design.
• Core Expertise: Deep mastery of aircraft flight dynamics, feedback control theory, and gain scheduling.
• Tool Setup: High proficiency in MATLAB & Simulink for numerical simulation and control analysis.
• Standards: Familiarity with safety-critical avionics frameworks, data buses, and DO-178C compliance.
• Bonus: A pilot license or direct flight test operations experience.
