Position Summary
The Staff Engineering Technician within the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team at System One LLC performs advanced technical functions under general supervision. This role supports engineering and design teams by creating and modifying project deliverables using industry standards, document control processes, and digital design tools.
The position focuses on developing site drainage, grading, and utility plans using Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation, supporting projects related to water, wastewater, pipelines, and other infrastructure systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify engineering deliverables using CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling tools
- Create site drainage, grading, and utility plans using Autodesk Civil 3D and MicroStation
- Apply engineering standards, codes, and System One LLC policies to ensure quality and compliance
- Interpret project requirements and produce accurate design documentation
- Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, and estimates
- Review design inputs and ensure consistency across deliverables
- Provide technical guidance and support to other technicians and team members
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support design development
- Assist with scheduling, task assignments, and deliverable reviews
- Support field activities and project startup efforts when needed
- Contribute to continuous improvement, quality initiatives, and adoption of new technologies
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of related experience
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, including:
- Pipe and pressure networks
- Grading and surface modeling
- Plan and profile development
- Strong understanding of:
- Plan & profile drawings
- Alignments
- Pipe networks
- Grading design
Technical Skills
- Autodesk Civil 3D (advanced)
- Autodesk AutoCAD
- Bluebeam
- Experience with CADD and other engineering design applications
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Knowledge of:
- Engineering standards and design principles
- Document control processes
- Construction practices and constructability
- Industry trends and technologies
- Quality assurance programs
Education
- Diploma or Certificate preferred
- Associate Degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or a related field preferred
