Job Description

The Department of Biology at Syracuse University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor to teach Biology and Biochemistry undergraduate level classes, starting in fall 2026. This position is initially a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. Syracuse University has a promotion structure for Teaching Professors, with Associate Teaching Professors and Full Teaching professors being eligible for renewable contracts of up to five years. Teaching Professors are full members of the departmental and university community and are eligible to vote on department, college and university decisions excluding tenure-track faculty hiring and promotion and tenure decisions.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant area of Biochemistry, Biology, or a closely related field and relevant teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise and/or teaching experience in Biochemistry, including teaching laboratory classes.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching six courses per year (3:3 load).
  • Teaching and grading undergraduate classes.
  • Developing and/or updating class syllabi and new classes as appropriate.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Advising undergraduates majoring in Biological fields.
  • Acting as a reader for distinction and honors projects.
  • Serving on committees.
  • Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
