What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer position at Syracuse Supply?
We're looking for a mechanical engineer who wants to own projects from initial concept through production. You'll work on industrial automation equipment and carbon fiber tube applications—designing, prototyping, testing, and refining until it's ready to ship.
What you'll do
Shape project direction from the start—not just execute plans, but help develop them. Design mechanical systems and assemblies for automation equipment. Develop carbon fiber tube products and fixtures. Help oversee production operations, including managing shop floor personnel. Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to keep projects moving. Create drawings, BOMs, and documentation that actually get used. Troubleshoot field issues when they come up.
We run a flat organization. You'll have direct input on what we build and how we build it. If you want a seat at the table rather than just a task list, this is that kind of role.
What we're looking for
5 years of mechanical engineering experience. Hands-on understanding of manufacturing processes—machining, fabrication, composites. Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar). Ability to lead and coordinate with production staff. Someone who'd rather build something that works than overengineer something that doesn't. Comfortable moving between design work and the shop floor.
Experience with carbon fiber or composite materials is a plus but not required if you're willing to learn. Hands-on metal machining and fabrication skills are also a plus.
