Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and review of property tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Manage property tax assessments, appeals, and exemptions to optimize tax liabilities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on estate planning initiatives, including wills, trusts, and estate law considerations.
- Conduct detailed analysis of property-related financial data using accounting software such as Quicken and other financial tools.
- Ensure adherence to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls related to tax reporting and internal processes.
- Support regulatory compliance accounting efforts by maintaining documentation aligned with GAAP standards.
- Assist in the integration of tax implications during mergers & acquisitions and other corporate transactions.
- Prepare detailed financial reports interpreting complex data for management review.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts related to property assets and ensure accuracy in balance sheet reporting.
- Provide expert guidance on corporate tax expertise areas including securities law, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and other relevant regulations.
- Communicate effectively with clients, auditors, and internal teams regarding tax strategies and compliance issues.
- Participate in auditing processes by providing necessary documentation and insights into property tax activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Extensive experience in tax accounting, including property tax compliance, individual tax, corporate tax expertise, and regulatory reporting.
- Strong knowledge of estate planning, wills, trusts & estate law, and related legal frameworks.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Quicken; familiarity with financial software used for tax reporting is essential.
- Demonstrated understanding of GAAP principles, double entry bookkeeping, technical accounting standards, and financial concepts.
- Experience with SOX controls to ensure compliance within financial processes.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data accurately and interpret financial statements effectively.
- Knowledge of securities law, LIHTC programs, asset management strategies, private equity considerations, and mergers & acquisitions processes.
- Excellent client communication skills combined with strong organizational abilities.
- Proven track record in auditing procedures, account reconciliation, budgeting, and financial analysis.
