What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Synergy Search?
The Opportunity
This is a high-impact, highly autonomous role for a seasoned Controller who wants to own the accounting function end-to-end. You will oversee all accounting operations across a sophisticated portfolio, lead and develop a small team, and serve as the primary financial point of contact for ownership and institutional investment partners including REITs.
What You Will Do
◦ Oversee all accounting operations: AP, AR, payroll, month-end and quarterly close, and bank reconciliations
◦ Produce accurate, timely GAAP financial statements and investor/partner reports
◦ Manage development accounting including bank draws, WIP schedules, job cost tracking, and Life of Job reporting
◦ Build and enforce standardized processes, workflows, and internal controls across all properties and divisions
◦ Lead, evaluate, and develop the accounting team
◦ Coordinate with external auditors, tax consultants, and lenders
◦ Monitor debt covenants and ensure ongoing compliance
What We Are Looking For
◦ Active CPA license required
◦ Public accounting background
◦ Real estate accounting experience required; mixed-use or ground-up development experience a strong plus
◦ GAAP reporting experience for REIT or institutional investors
◦ Yardi proficiency preferred; comparable real estate ERP experience acceptable
◦ Baltimore-local; committed to being in the office 4 days per week
Salary : $140,000 - $175,000
