Litigation Paralegal

We are seeking an experienced litigation paralegal to support our attorneys across the full life of a case, from initial intake through resolution.

This is a substantive position. You will manage your own caseload, draft documents that go out under attorney review rather than attorney rewrite, and conduct research that directly informs case strategy. We are looking for someone who can anticipate what a case needs before being asked, and who understands that a filing deadline is not a suggestion.

Responsibilities

Case management

• Maintain case files and calendars from intake through resolution, tracking all deadlines under the applicable rules of civil procedure
• Serve as a point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, courts, and vendors
• Monitor case status and flag issues to the responsible attorney before they become urgent

Discovery

• Draft and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission
• Manage document collection, review, and production, including privilege logs
• Prepare and issue subpoenas; obtain and organize medical, employment, and business records
• Summarize deposition transcripts and maintain deposition and exhibit indices

Research and drafting

• Conduct legal and factual research using Westlaw, Lexis, or comparable platforms
• Prepare research memoranda summarizing relevant authority
• Draft pleadings, motions, notices, correspondence, and supporting declarations for attorney review
• Cite-check and verify authority; ensure conformity with applicable court formatting rules

Filing and court procedure

• File documents in state and federal court, including electronic filing through CM/ECF and applicable state systems
• Track service, response deadlines, and hearing dates
• Coordinate with court clerks on procedural requirements

Trial preparation

• Assemble trial notebooks, exhibit lists, and witness binders
• Coordinate witness and expert scheduling
• Provide support during hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trial as needed

Qualifications

Required

• Two or more years of litigation paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
• Demonstrated experience with the discovery process from initial requests through production
• Proficiency in legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, or a comparable platform
• Working knowledge of state and federal rules of civil procedure and applicable local rules
• Experience with electronic court filing
• Strong writing ability, with meticulous attention to citation format, grammar, and detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document management or case management software

Preferred

• Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program, or a bachelor's degree
• NALA (CP/ACP) or NFPA (RP/CRP) certification
• Experience in [insert practice areas: personal injury, employment, commercial, insurance defense, family law]
• Familiarity with e-discovery platforms and document review tools
• Trial experience, including on-site support
• Notary commission, or willingness to obtain one

• Ownership of deadlines. Court dates do not move because a calendar entry was missed, and you treat them accordingly.
• Independent judgment. You can take a general instruction and return a complete draft rather than a list of questions.
• Precision under volume. Your work does not degrade when several cases demand attention at once.
• Discretion. You understand the confidentiality obligations that attach to this work and honor them without exception.
• Directness. You raise problems early, including when the problem is something an attorney overlooked.

The stated range reflects a genuine spread. Candidates at the lower end will have solid foundational litigation experience; those at the upper end will bring deeper discovery, motion practice, and trial exposure and will be expected to operate with correspondingly greater independence.

This role may not be a good fit if

• You prefer purely administrative legal support without substantive drafting or research responsibility
• You are uncomfortable managing several active matters and competing deadlines at once
• You require close supervision on routine filings and discovery tasks
• You are looking primarily for transactional or corporate work rather than litigation

These are not deficiencies, but they are poorly matched to this position, and identifying that early serves both parties.

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
