Billing & Compliance Specialist (Part-Time)

Open to W-2 Employee or 1099 Contractor

Locations: Ukiah, CA & Sonoma County (Hybrid)
Pay Range: $22.01 – $24.87/hour (higher hourly rate expected for 1099)
Hours: 5–15 hours/week (higher hours during training period)

Synergy Family Services is seeking a part-time Billing & Compliance Specialist to support billing accuracy, documentation compliance, and program fidelity across Community Health Worker (CHW), psychotherapy, and Wraparound services.

This role is focused on billing follow-through, chart review, and compliance monitoring. We are looking for someone organized, consistent, and comfortable holding systems and people to clear expectations.

Primary ResponsibilitiesBilling

• Submit and manage billing through Ensora
• Bill for CHW services and psychotherapy services
• Review claims for accuracy prior to submission
• Track, correct, and follow up on denied or rejected claims

Chart Review & Documentation

• Review client charts for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
• Ensure documentation supports billed services
• Verify required signatures, assessments, plans, and progress notes
• Follow up with staff to correct missing or incomplete documentation

Program & Compliance Monitoring

• Monitor services and documentation for alignment with High Fidelity Wraparound (HFW) standards
• Sit in on meetings or observe services as needed to support fidelity and compliance
• Identify gaps and track corrective actions

Office & Operational Oversight

• Conduct periodic in-person compliance checks at Ukiah and Sonoma County sites
• Verify confidentiality practices, record-keeping, and required postings
• Track issues and confirm resolution

Qualifications

Required

• Experience with healthcare billing, compliance, or clinical documentation
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to follow tasks through to completion
• Comfortable communicating directly with staff regarding documentation and billing issues

Preferred

• Experience with Wraparound or High Fidelity Wraparound
• Knowledge of CHW billing and/or Medi-Cal billing
• Psychotherapy billing experience
• Experience using Ensora or similar EHR systems

Position Details & Growth

• Part-time role: 5–15 hours per week
• Higher hours during initial training and onboarding
• Open to W-2 employment or 1099 contract arrangement
• Hybrid role with some in-person presence required
• As the organization grows, this role may expand to 20 hours per week, especially for candidates interested in working directly with clients for a portion of their time in addition to billing and compliance duties
