Technical Certification Bonus: Synectics is pleased to award its employees a bonus of up to $500 for an approved professional certification. Only one Certification Bonus per calendar year may be awarded per employee. Only current, active employees will be eligible to receive this bonus. It will be awarded 90 days after the Synectics office has received documentation confirming the successful completion of the certification.

- Trainer provides hands-on husbandry and technical rodent training, maintain training documentation, day-to-day coordination of the training requests and report schedules for Kendall Square.
- Trainer will also assist managers and trainers in evaluating completion of assigned training activities.
- Hands-on husbandry and technical training in rodents at Kendall Square; ability to travel to other vivaria to provide training on an as needed basis
- Attend Global Training Meetings
- Schedule training sessions and provide technical advice on procedures
- Review and ensure compliance with training modules and process training requests in Kendall Square
- Will be required to work under one of the following: The United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Good Laboratory Practices, and AAALAC accreditation standards.
- Actively interact with all Comparative medicine colleagues, scientists, managers and veterinarians as well as Institutional Animal Care and Use committees (IACUC) members
- Bachelor of Science degree or Associate of Arts degree in Veterinary Technology required.
- Minimum of three (3) years related animal care and handling experience.
- One (1) year technical experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level (LATG) required.
- Ability to handle and manipulate rodent laboratory species.
- Knowledge of small animal biomethodology to include: breeding, common diseases, physical exams, anatomy, anesthesia, safe handling and restraint techniques, proper use of PPE, euthanasia, blood collection and injection techniques.
- Proficiency in basic technical skills and the operation of data collection equipment in barrier, conventional and containment environments.
- Ability to work independent of direct supervision and oversee new employee/trainees during normal work schedules.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical data, safety rules, maintenance instructions, and operation procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to develop and proof training materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of employees.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English with excellent written and spoken skills.
- Ability to determine correct drug dose calculations utilized in the treatment and restraint of laboratory animals.
- Capability to utilize common spreadsheet and database programs for the recording and reporting of numerical data.
- Employee must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold objects weighing up to 50 pounds independently.
- Must be able to perform procedures, which require, talking, hearing, standing or sitting for long periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate instruments, reach with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company standards.
- Must be able to use computer terminals, keyboard, mouse and other resources in the design, development, delivery, and documentation of training materials.
- Must be able to frequently firmly restrain common laboratory animal species while utilizing fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
