Job Summary
The Die Setter is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and maintaining powder metal compaction presses and tooling to support production requirements. This position ensures parts are produced safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Symmco's quality standards and customer specifications. The Die Setter works closely with production, maintenance, and quality personnel to maintain consistent operations and minimize downtime.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and align dies, punches, and tooling on compaction presses according to work orders and setup specifications.
- Verify part dimensions and appearance during setup and production using precision measuring instruments.
- Monitor equipment during operation, identify mechanical or process issues, and perform necessary adjustments.
- Maintain proper documentation, including setup sheets, production logs, and inspection reports.
- Perform minor maintenance, cleaning, and preventive tasks on equipment and tooling.
- Ensure all safety procedures and company policies are followed at all times.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and quality assurance staff regarding production status and issues.
- Assist with training and development of other employees as directed.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and contribute to team goals.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience as a Die Setter or similar manufacturing role preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of press setup and tooling.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, and use precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers).
- Effective problem-solving and communication skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Exposure to manufacturing environment conditions including noise, dust, and moving machinery.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
