What are the responsibilities and job description for the AS/RS HMI Operations Specialist position at Symbotic Automation?
Role Snapshot Operate and care for Symbotic’s automated adapters and interfaces that connect to our storage and retrieval structure. Ensure systems are ready, safe, and performing to target by driving operations through HMI terminals and disciplined procedures. What You’ll Do Execute pre-production checks so automated adapters are in a ready-to-run state.Control and monitor automated storage and retrieval flow via adapters: manual inbound, automatic inbound, and automatic outbound—aiming for peak throughput and cases/hour.Prepare pallets for induction into the Symbotic storage and retrieval system.Triage stoppages; restore service using HMI insights and safe manual intervention.Escalate production-impacting issues immediately to operational leadership.Drive uptime: system preservation, robot recovery, suspect removal, and bot health actions.Conduct routine inspections: cleaning, lubrication, tolerance checks, component validation, current measurements, and electrical checks.Report out-of-spec conditions, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to maintain continuous operation.Use radios with proper etiquette while coordinating with leaders and operational leads.Maintain rover bots: replace wheels, clean, and service ESD brushes and sensors.Recover automated robotic vehicles within the Symbotic Matrix select system, including work in restrictive environments.Perform other duties as assigned by leadership. Qualifications Associate degree or equivalent experience/certification in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or similar preferred.1 year with mechanical automation systems, or equivalent education/training.Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive system inspections.Proven prioritization skills to maximize automated cell uptime and throughput.Strong safety mindset and adherence to procedures.Self-directed, able to follow manuals and SOPs without close supervision.Multi-tasker comfortable juggling multiple functions simultaneously.You should be proficient in: Warehouse Experience Work Environment Climb steep stairs; work near high railings.Indoor conditions with potential temperature variation from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.Construction sites require PPE: hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eyeglasses, ear protection, and fall protection (e.g., safety harness).Lift up to 50 lbs frequently; move items up to 80 lbs.Stand/walk 10–12 hours; frequent reaching.Operate at heights up to 45 feet and in spaces as small as 24 inches; climb/balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.Capable of feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive movements with both hands and feet.Strictly follow Lockout/Tagout and fall protection protocols and all safety requirements.
