Job Summary:
The Senior Director of Field Operations will lead our comprehensive Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployment and service organization. This executive role is critical to scaling our network infrastructure, ensuring operational excellence in construction and customer installations, and maintaining world-class network performance and reliability. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in telecommunications, specifically in large-scale FTTH deployments, and a proven track record of managing multi-regional field teams, contractors, and complex supply chains.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for all field operations, aligning with the company's aggressive FTTH build-out goals and service expansion plans.
- Lead capital planning and operational budgeting for field activities, ensuring cost-effective and efficient use of resources across construction, installation, and maintenance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction metrics across all field functions.
- Negotiate and manage high-value contracts with fiber construction firms, civil engineering partners, and specialized installation contractors.
Network Construction & Deployment (OSP)
- Oversee all Outside Plant (OSP) activities, including civil engineering, trenching, conduit placement, fiber pulling, splicing, and optical testing (OTDR).
- Ensure rigorous adherence to design specifications (e.g., GPON/XGS-PON architecture), quality control standards, and regulatory compliance (e.g., utility locates, environmental permits).
- Implement advanced project management methodologies to track and accelerate the 'make-ready' process and new market network activation.
Installation & Service Activation (ISP/Premises)
- Manage the efficient scheduling and execution of In-Home/Premises Installation (ISP) operations, including drop placement, Optical Network Terminal (ONT) configuration, and Wi-Fi setup.
- Establish and enforce rigorous standards for the customer experience (CX) during installation, emphasizing timely, professional, and first-time-right service delivery.
- Develop standardized training and certification programs for in-house technicians and third-party installers to ensure expertise in fiber handling and customer electronics integration.
Maintenance & Network Reliability
- Direct the Field Maintenance and Repair organization, focusing on rapid response to fiber cuts, network outages, and service issues (trouble tickets).
- Implement predictive maintenance strategies using network performance data (e.g., light level monitoring, NMS alarms) to minimize service disruption.
- Oversee inventory management of critical OSP and ISP materials (e.g., fiber cable, splitters, splice closures, ONTs) to support operational velocity.
Required Qualifications & Experience 🎓
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in telecommunications or utility construction, with at least 5 years at the VP or Director level.
- Deep, demonstrable expertise in FTTH architectures (e.g., Passive Optical Network - PON), OSP construction methodologies, and MDU/SFU deployment strategies.
- Proven success managing multi-million dollar capital budgets and multi-site, geographically dispersed field operations teams (both internal and contractor-based).
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local permitting processes, utility coordination, and relevant safety regulations (e.g., OSHA).
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday during standard business hours; however, start and end times may vary based on team needs and project deadlines. Occasional overtime or weekend hours may be required to meet business demands.
