Fiber Engineer II (OSP) — Irvine, CA (Hybrid)

We’re looking for a Fiber Engineer II to help design, field, and deliver high-quality fiber network builds. This role blends engineering, field validation, mentoring, and cross-team collaboration to expand reliable connectivity across communities.
What you’ll do
• Lead design and planning of complex OSP fiber routes, capacity planning, and deployment strategy
• Manage projects from planning through construction, testing, and turn-up
• Conduct field surveys along ROW and easements (aerial & underground assessments, pole inspections, clearance checks, substructure review)
• Document field findings with photos, sketches, and notes to support engineering and construction handoff
• Apply value engineering in the field to improve constructability and long-term network reliability
• Partner with construction, operations, NOC, and splicing teams to ensure successful deployments
• Troubleshoot network issues, analyze performance, and recommend improvements
• Maintain detailed design, testing, and project documentation
• Mentor junior engineers and support a collaborative engineering culture
What we’re looking for
• Associate degree in telecom, fiber engineering, or related field
• 5 years of fiber installation, network engineering, or telecom experience
• 2 years of leadership or mentoring experience
• Strong expertise in fiber systems, splicing, testing, and network architecture
• Experience with OSP field data collection and route validation
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or optical network design tools
• Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites as needed
• Willingness to support on-call emergency network repairs
