MTSS Specialist (Grades K–7)

Compensation: Per the SEA Contract - Member of the SEA Teacher’s Contract
Position Overview
The Swampscott Public Schools district seeks a visionary and highly collaborative MTSS Specialist to support the implementation of an effective Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model across grades K–7. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the development of the Targeted Instruction Program and ensuring instructional expectations align with district-wide best practices.
Guided by the district’s C.O.R.E. values—Community, Opportunity, Respect, and Equity—you will work under the direction of the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Building Principals to ensure every student receives the specific interventions and supports necessary for academic and social-emotional success.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
- Program Development: Lead the ongoing evolution and revision of the Targeted Instruction model (K–7). Manage scheduling, logistics, and systematic supports to meet the needs of all learners.
- Data Facilitation: Facilitate effective data meetings using established protocols. Analyze MCAS, ACCESS, iReady, and literacy/math screeners to create instructional groupings and inform interventions.
- Instructional Modeling: Maintain expert knowledge of MTSS developments and model best pedagogical practices within classrooms to support teacher growth.
- Resource Coordination: Recommend and coordinate the selection of curriculum materials and books in cooperation with faculty and administration.
- Professional Development: Collaborate with district leadership to design and deliver PD focused on effective MTSS implementation and the Teaching and Learning Cycle.
Leadership and School-wide Engagement
- Strategic Planning: Participate in bi-weekly building leadership meetings and Curriculum Leadership Teams at both SES and SMS to advance School Improvement Plan goals.
- Collaborative Communication: Act as a bridge between teachers, administration, and families, ensuring clear and timely communication regarding student needs and district initiatives.
- Mentorship: Support the onboarding of new educators including participation in New Teacher Orientation.
- Problem-Solving: Actively participate in creating solutions for building-level issues and support a vibrant school culture through participation in school affairs.
Professional Reliability
- Consistent Attendance: Maintain punctuality and consistent attendance to ensure the integrity of the data cycle and the continuous support of staff and students.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Valid Massachusetts Elementary Certification (1-6).
- Education: Master’s Degree in Education or a related field.
- SEI Endorsement: Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement required.
- Expertise: Expert knowledge of disciplinary content standards (Math and Literacy) and experience with the analysis/interpretation of student assessment data.
- Skills: Strong instructional practice, oral/written communication, and proficiency with educational technology.
- Attributes: Self-starter with a commitment to continuous reflection and building-level improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
- Massachusetts Certification as a Specialist Teacher: Reading.
