Position Overview

The Swampscott Public Schools district seeks a dedicated and innovative educator to join a community committed to academic excellence, equity, and social-emotional growth. In this role, you will be responsible for the primary function of designing and implementing high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that meets the diverse needs of all learners within an inclusive, child-centered environment. Because our youngest learners and their families rely on a stable and predictable start to their educational journey, punctuality and consistent, reliable attendance are essential to the success of this role.

Essential Functions

Instructional Leadership

  • Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Creatively provide an interdisciplinary course of study that integrates reading, writing, and analytical skills in alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Core Content Delivery: Implement district learning goals using a standards-based Math Curriculum and the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop Model.
  • Assessment & Data: Administer district mid-year and end-of-year assessments. Familiarity with Intro To Reading, i-Ready, AimsWeb, Fountas & Pinnell (BAS testing), and standards-based grading is highly advantageous.
  • Technological Integration: Utilize educational technology to enhance learning; experience with Google Classroom, Zoom, SeeSaw, or similar platforms is preferred.

Classroom Environment & Management

  • Child-Centered Culture: Create a developmentally appropriate environment that establishes positive student behavioral expectations through structured routines and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Relationship Building: Establish a classroom structure that values positive relationships through intentional curriculum implementation.
  • Inclusion & Collaboration: Partner with general education teachers, specialists, and families to ensure an inclusive environment conducive to all learners' needs.

Professional Reliability

  • Consistent Attendance: Maintain punctuality and consistent attendance to ensure instructional continuity and the effective supervision and safety of students.
  • District Representation: Perform other duties typical for a classroom teacher as required by the Building Principal.

Job Requirements

  • Licensure: Current Massachusetts Educator Certification in Early Childhood (PreK-2) 
  • SEI Endorsement: Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Compliance: Citizenship, residency, or work visa required; successful completion of a CORI and fingerprint-based background check.

  • Vision: Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Environment: Exposure to ultraviolet lights (computer monitors/copiers) and potential hazards common in school buildings.
