  • Pay: ** $18.00 per hour ($2.00 per hour differential available for overnight/weekend hours; and .25 cents per hour differential for Bilingual English/Spanish).
  • Schedule:** Shift available: Friday - Saturday overnight, 10:00 p.m. -- 6:00 a.m. Flexibility in shifts worked is required as shelter services operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

**GENERAL PURPOSE**

The Overnight Resident Advocate is primarily responsible for attending to the needs of shelter residents, providing crisis support to callers on the 24-hour help line, and supporting the safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of the Shelter facility.

The Overnight Resident Advocate position may require a significant amount of time to be spent completing cleaning and restocking duties if/when resident/caller needs are minimal.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES **

  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance. The ability to arrive on time and work scheduled shifts is necessary to provide the required level of services to clients.

  • Answer the 24-hour help line; provide crisis advocacy, safety planning support, and referrals and information to help callers with guidance and resources; and document all activities in an electronic database.

  • Provide supportive advocacy, active listening, and support residential living needs for Shelter residents, including help answering questions and providing supplies.
  • Demonstrate support for/practice SVS strategic imperative of being part of a 360-degree, trauma-informed organization.

  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of all client information.

  • Perform tasks necessary to maintain all areas free from health/safety/fire hazards. Basic cleaning tasks include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, dusting, changing and washing linens, and sanitizing bathrooms. During the overnight shift, if resident/caller needs are minimal, this position focuses on deep cleaning, maintenance, and restocking duties.

  • Conduct safety and security checks of residents and property by moving inside and outside the facility.

  • Perform CPR and administer First Aid as needed.

**OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents, staff, volunteers, donors, and vendors.

  • Monitor activity on camera security system to maintain safety of residents and security of property.

  • Complete miscellaneous duties to comply with sanitation, safety, health, and licensing regulations.

**QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS**

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing in English.

  • Ability to demonstrate/utilize compassion, empathy, and respect when interacting with residents and callers on the 24-hour helpline.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with SVS staff.
  • Pass and maintain cleared status on a Direct Access Clearance System (DACS) Criminal Background Check.

  • Obtain First Aid and CPR

Certification within 30 days and recertify every year.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**

  • Education or experience in any Human Services field

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

**WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEM NDS**

The work environment includes an office environment and a residential shelter environment. Answering the helpline, talking to callers, and entering information into a computer is required. Moving around the shelter to perform maintenance and conduct security and safety checks is also required, as is time spent cleaning/sanitizing resident rooms and bathrooms and restocking supplies in common areas. These duties require moving up and down stairs, lifting/moving items to facilitate cleaning and stocking, and moving around outside the shelter during all weather conditions. Other tasks may be necessary for the maintenance of the shelter and safety of the residents.

**EQUIPMENT USED**

Operation of basic office equipment such as telephone, computer, copy machine, and camera security system; and basic cleaning tools such as mop, broom, steamer, vacuum, and washer/dryer.
