Sutton National Group is growing! We are looking for a Liability Claims Manager to support the claims management aspects of our business. The Position will be responsible for driving operational and executional excellence within the Sutton National Group's claims organization and through the oversight and management of Third-Party Administrators (TPAs). The Liability Claims Manager will oversee the adjustment of claims performed by Company’s TPAs. This role is responsible for ensuring that Company’s customers are afforded industry best claims handling services that in compliance with Company’s TPA claims handling protocols; coordinating with our TPA partners in support of continuous improvement; and supporting growth and development of Company’s product offerings.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the Company liability claims operations, providing claims leadership, direction, and support across the function
- Develop and implement strategies, processes, and procedures for the engagement, oversight and audit of TPAs to ensure claims best practices and ensure claims regulatory compliance.
- Actively and collaboratively negotiate and manage TPA relationships, including negotiating fee structures consistent with reinsurance and other contractual terms, being accountable for the oversight of TPA performance, and setting and managing service level standards
- Engage in the lead handling of or involvement in, the resolution of high severity liability claims, litigated casualty claims, exposure determinations, declinations of coverage, declaratory judgments, claim settlements, and other escalated matters
- Communicate, influence, and engage across the organization with Program Management, Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, etc. to keep them informed of important matters and to partner on strategic initiatives
- Be the primary point of contact with TPAs and other interested parties for claim reserving, claim payment, expert engagement, and other required authorities
- Be a point of contact with reinsurance partners on casualty claim management practices and specific claim communications
- Design, conduct and track claim file audits in accordance with best practices, produce audit reports internally and to interested external parties, and track audit results through time to assure continuous performance improvement
- Lead the claim litigation oversight process, adopt litigation management best practices, develop litigation strategies for large losses, and be the primary point of contact for claim litigation matters with external counsel
- Be the primary resource in the claims organization of the Company to analyze and identify Company and counterparty needs for claims information, and implement the use of technology to collect, synthesize, and disseminate information about claims data, trends, indications, and reports to internal and external consumers
- Provide proactive and progressive solutions to anticipated and unanticipated business needs by considering the total picture of the impacts and outcomes, as well as dependencies throughout the organization
- Maintain organized files for all claims matters in alignment with current shared file structures and naming conventions
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in liability claims management, preferably overseeing third-party administrators
- Undergraduate degree required
- Claims administration designations preferred
- Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the liability claims administration process, including litigation management, establishment of claims reserves and oversight of third-party administrators and experts
- Wide range of experience negotiating liability claims administration contracts
- Strong oral and written communication skills including reports, presentations, and process and procedure manuals
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) as well as a comfort level with remote access to TPA systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Must be a self-starter that can adapt quickly and execute projects without close supervision.
- Some travel will be required
COMPENSATION
The target annual salary for this role is $105,000 - $125,000 plus bonus depending on experience. This is a remote-first role with occasional travel required.
