Senior Accountant
Reports to: Finance Director
Classification: Full Time
Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant at this non-profit affordable housing organization is responsible for a wide range of activities, including but not limited to transactional work related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, recording journal entries, mortgage loan servicing, and foreclosure processing. They will assist in the annual budget preparation and analyses on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis of actual results compared to budget; support the annual financial audit (including Project Cost Certifications) and oversee restricted and unrestricted revenues related to donations and grants.
Accounting:
· Process monthly reconciliations: bank statements, accounting functions and credit card statements
· Process journal entries and make correct adjustments as necessary.
- Assist in the budget preparation and review process
- Work with department managers and directors to review actuals and/or budgets to ensure understanding and identify areas where corrective actions need to be taken to meet financial goals
- Assist with the year-end audit, Project Cost Certifications and IRS Form 990 preparation assistance as needed and directed by the Finance Director
- Review all accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the general ledger to ensure that all items are recorded correctly and make corrections where needed in the accounting system
· Review and check all invoices and have the ability to track various spreadsheets as needed (ARPA, DDD, etc.)
· Prepare and review grant reimbursements requests, ensuring compliance with donor intent and grant agreements
- Assist in the establishment, maintaining and implementation of accounting/finance control policies and procedures
- Act as the liaison between finance, fund development and program service staff by providing financial reports.
· Administer and process payrolls for all employees
· Responsible for day-to-day transactions using QuickBooks.
· QuickBooks: Prepare and track Budgets, identifying variances with monthly expenses and providing corrective recommendations
· Maintain confidentiality across all accounting transactions and payroll process
· Weekly Departmental meetings
· Understand payroll tax filing and benefits administration
· Other duties as assigned
Mortgage Loan Servicing & Management:
· Develop and manage policies related to mortgage servicing, collections and foreclosures
· Manage relationship with third party mortgage loan servicer
· Report monthly on status of all mortgages
· Report monthly on recover plan for each delinquent loan
· Set up accounts and report regularly to all third-party mortgage leveraging partners on the status of their receivables
· Liaise with third party partners on loan pay offs, buy backs and other remedies when delinquencies occur on their loans
· Manage lien release or satisfaction process on all loans as lien terms are satisfied
· Manage the process for loan modifications and other changes resulting from life events of our homeowners (i.e. Death in family, inheritance, deportations, divorce, etc.)
· Manage relationship with attorney for foreclosure and eviction processes
· Ability to communicate with homeowners regarding mortgage delinquency, loss mitigation options, and foreclosure prevention
· Maintain a calm and professional tone when handling sensitive foreclosure conversations whether on the phone, in person, or even by electronic communications
· Manage annual escrow analysis process for loans serviced by Habitat
· Manage collections of all loans service by Habitat
· Manage lot rent and special circumstance collections on land trust properties
· Manage files for house rentals (ie. contracts, rental payments, renewals and deadlines)
· Manage buy-back process of properties from Habitat homeowners
· Set up new loans with loan servicer
· Ensure all homeowners have insurance
· Manage escrow payables
· Weekly Staff meetings
· Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or another relevant field
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Excellent organizational skills, strong critical thinking skills and ability to plan and prioritize while managing multiple deadlines
- Strong customer service skills and ability to deliver service excellence
- Demonstrated effective conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work and communicate effectively (verbal, written, in-person, and/or telephone) with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and facilitate projects to their completion

- An experienced professional with the ability to use sound judgment in decision-making, while demonstrating a strong ability to work as a team
- Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proficiency with QuickBooks
- Understand GAAP and non-profit accounting standards (FASB)
Work Environment:
· Evaluations at 30, 60, 90 days, 1 year and annually thereafter
· Normal work week is Monday – Friday, 9AM to 5PM. Hybrid options considered
