Sussex County Community College is currently recruiting an Assistant Director of the Public Safety Training Academy (PSTA). Under direction of academy leadership, this position oversees daily training routines, readiness, facility maintenance and administrative procedures. The Assistant Director of the PSTA ensures the safe and effective operation of training programs and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct academy instructors in the operation and procedures of training equipment and facilities and specialized operational drills.
- Oversee daily operational tasks, facility and training equipment readiness, and facility maintenance.
- Assist in the development and enforcement of standard operating procedures for
safety and training exercises.
- Demonstrate firefighting techniques and the proper use of firefighting equipment and apparatus.
- Ensure the proper use, maintenance, and storage of training equipment and apparatus.
- Inspect and periodically test firefighting equipment used for training.
- Maintain training facilities and ensure safe training environments.
- Utilize electronic and/or computerized systems used for training documentation and program administration.
Qualifications:
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience providing instruction and demonstrations in firefighting techniques, fire suppression, and emergency operations.
Certification
- Fire Service Instructor Level II certification issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division of Fire Safety.
- Drill Ground Instructor.
- All applicable Train-the-Trainers in various courses of the Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 curriculum.
License
- Valid New Jersey driver's license when operation of a vehicle is required for the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Modern firefighting tactics and operational procedures
- Fire protection and prevention practices
- Fire apparatus operations and emergency response methods
- Firefighting equipment and personal protective equipment
- Fire behavior and fire dynamics
- Rescue operations and emergency medical support principles
- Training methods, instructional techniques, and curriculum development
- Student evaluation and performance assessment methods
Ability to:
- Provide effective classroom and practical instruction
- Demonstrate firefighting techniques and equipment use
- Develop and prepare instructional materials and lesson plans
- Evaluate student learning and performance
- Supervise instructional staff and training evolutions
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
- Maintain training equipment and facilities
- Utilize electronic recordkeeping and training management systems
