Duties
- Prepare and assemble a variety of sushi dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
- Assist in the daily setup and organization of the sushi station, ensuring all ingredients are fresh and properly stored
- Handle food with care, following strict food safety and hygiene protocols to prevent contamination
- Slice fish, vegetables, and other ingredients using precise knife skills to ensure consistent quality and appearance
- Support menu planning by suggesting new sushi options and seasonal specials based on ingredient availability and customer preferences
- Maintain cleanliness of workstations, tools, and equipment in compliance with health regulations
- Assist with food preparation for catering events or special functions as needed
- Serve sushi dishes efficiently to guests, ensuring a positive dining experience
- Follow all food handling procedures diligently during meal prep and service periods
Skills
- Proven experience in a culinary environment, particularly in sushi preparation or Japanese cuisine is highly desirable
- Strong knife skills with the ability to handle raw fish and vegetables safely and efficiently
- Knowledge of food safety standards and proper food handling techniques
- Experience in menu planning, food preparation, cooking, and food service within a restaurant or food industry setting
- Familiarity with dietary department procedures or dietary aide experience is a plus
- Ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to communicate effectively within a busy kitchen environment
- Knowledge of catering services and serving etiquette preferred
