Director of Med Surg/ICU/Swing Bed

1. Plans the operation of the departments by establishing budget, goals, and objectives, deciding on means to achieve goals, and formulating action plans. 2. Organizes the departments by scheduling work assignments, establishing time frames, providing needed equipment and supplies, assigning authority and responsibility, and coordinating department activities. 3. Staffs the departments by hiring qualified individuals, providing work place orientation, and initiating termination procedures as appropriate. 4. Influences organizational members by motivating employees, demonstrating leadership, promoting communication, and by supporting a team philosophy. 5. Controls operation of the departments by establishing performance goals or standards, evaluating actual performance, managing budget compliance, assuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures, initiating disciplinary actions, and by meeting regulatory and/or accreditation standards. 6. Reports to appropriate entity expense and revenue budget variations, statistical measures, Quality/Risk Management activities, timekeeping functions, and unusual occurrences. 7. Implements programs, policy and procedures, and educational endeavors to assure quality operation of the departments. 8. Develops the departments and employees by providing needs assessment, and education. 9. Performs the essential functions of all nursing personnel as needed.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Good interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge regarding basic management and personnel management skills. Education: Graduate of a State Board approved or accredited school of nursing. BSN desirable. Experience: Clinical experience in the area of the department's scope of practice. Certification/Licensure: Must possess evidence of current Kansas license or valid temporary permit to practice (if coming from out of state). Certification in area of responsibility encouraged. Code Blue Training: a. A minimum training level of BLS is required. ALLS preferred.
b. Acquire and maintain ACLS training for ED and ICU.
c. Acquire and maintain Neonatal resuscitation training for OB.
May require frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and grasping. Occasionally requires lifting and carrying up to 35 lbs. Job requires full range of body motion, with occasional twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and reaching. Job may require reaching overhead. Job requires ability to handle and lift patients. Eye-hand coordination, and finger and manual dexterity are required. Requires corrected hearing and vision to a normal range. Job requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Some exposure to communicable diseases, sharps, and hazardous material is anticipated. Job requires potential exposure to body fluids and radiation. Requires the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. Use of office equipment such as telephones, copying machines, fax machines, computers, and intercom may be required. Repetitive movements such as writing are required.
Includes working weekends and holidays, with potential for varied shifts and/or standby time.
